Management Forum 2009

"Energizing Product Development in a Challenging Global Economy"

Entering its third year, the PTC/USER Management Forum is a unique opportunity for managers and executives to discuss business challenges and share solutions for improving product development processes. Registration is limited to manager and executive-level professionals to create an intimate and interactive setting that promotes knowledge exchange.

Our theme this year is "Energizing Product Development in a Challenging Global Economy." The prevailing economic conditions create new obstacles as well as opportunities. Instead of surrendering to "doom and gloom," we're going to examine how to best advance your product development goals and prepare your organization for success.

You will walk away from this event with useful, effective knowledge that you can employ in your business today. Learn how you can take advantage of difficult times to not only survive, but thrive now and in the future.

Speakers

We have a stellar line-up of industry experts both within and outside of the world of PTC technology.

Robert TuckerCorporate innovation guru Robert Tucker of Innovation Resource Consulting Group is our keynote speaker.

Robert will address the practices that turn some companies into market leaders and others into market laggards during periods of sustained economic downturn. How can you and your team turn today’s crisis into tomorrow’s game-changing opportunities and breakthrough products? Using a wealth of real world case examples, this program shows how to:

• Adapt your managerial and leadership style to the demands of a dramatically new era

• Assess your position in a vastly changed market, and anticipate how your customers’ changed buying behavior will impact your operation

• Cultivate a culture where innovative thinking is the norm

• Build the buy-in for your initiatives and the resources you need

• Use Open Innovation to lower costs and increase output

• Fortify your “idea factory” to focus more on strategic initiatives rather than being consumed with tactical issues.

Gareth EvansGareth Evans is HP’s Product Development and Engineering Solutions lead.

He will present how HP has undertaken an IT transformation that affected every application used within the corporation and how Product Development and Engineering has benefited from this. This session will be interactive to allow you to compare your company’s situation with the approach HP has taken.

Dick Harrison and Jim HeppelmannPTC Chairman and CEO Dick Harrison, along with President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Heppelmann, will engage attendees in a lively open discussion about the current status and future direction of the company. Dick and Jim will also share their insights on the PTC product strategy and how it will help customers improve their product development processes.

Michael MongilioMichael Mongilio, ATK, will present "Enabling Collaborative Engineering Across Multiple Distributed Sites."

With the continuing advances in information technology, more and more companies are realizing that product design teams can be formed by selecting expert team members from different geographic locations. In this presentation, learn about the collaborative framework that was established to help NASA bring together a team to develop an innovative design for a future manned spacecraft.

David PaulsonDavid Paulson, President of Accuer, will present "Lean NPD & PLM: A Perfect Marriage, or a Perfect Storm?" Here is a brief abstract of this presentation:

Two incredible forces in manufacturing are about to collide—Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Lean New Product Development (Lean NPD). And when big forces collide the result is usually a mess. But will that be the case this time?

While their focus varies, their ultimate value promise is the same—increase market share and revenue. So if that’s the case, it raises the following questions. What are their differences? Can they coexist? Should one be done first? Should we just do one? And if so, which one?

This presentation will focus on Lean NPD. It will compare its business impact to PLM and other business initiatives. It will introduce the Lean NPD principles, and explain how and why it can be done with PLM. It will also cover the biggest obstacles to implementation, the necessary steps, expected timelines, and payback.

While the individual situations for each attendee will vary, you should leave with a clear understanding of what you can do right now in order to take advantage of this great opportunity to gain a strategic advantage in a competitive global marketplace and challenging economic times.

Christopher Musso of McKinsey and Company's Product Development Practice will present "Upgrade Your R&D in a Downturn".

Kurt KuelzKurt Kuelz, PTC Senior Vice President of Global Service North America and Global Delivery Lead, will present "Maximize the Value Your Product Development System Delivers."

Through the years, PTC Global Services has worked with thousands of companies implementing technologies to improve product development. There is a clear difference in the decisions and practices of companies who get average value from their PLM investment, and those who get real breakthrough value. We will discuss the critical issues for maximizing value, starting with driving the right solution design process to achieve an Out-of-the-Box solution (also known as “Configured-Off-The-Shelf”). Getting the adoption of technology right is also key, and we will discuss our recommended process-centric approach that has been highly effective. Lastly we will present a management model for long-term solution management to drive the lowest long-term Total Cost of Ownership as a company’s PDS continues to evolve.

Schedule

The forum will be held on Sunday, June 7 and Monday June 8.
