Give PTC your input for Materials and Design for X!
|
PTC CAD Product Management is looking for feedback in two areas:
- Material Management, specifically focusing on the “purchased parts” use case
- The information gathered will help drive the next phase of Material Management in Windchill where Creo can assign Windchill sourced materials to parts.
- The use case we would like to focus on next involves parts purchased from suppliers, what information is gathered from the suppliers, how materials are associated with them, and how mass properties are calculated.
- Design for “X”
- The information gathered will help guide the direction that PTC focus on for the Design for “X” area.
- You can expect questions like “What does Design for X mean for you?” and “What challenges do you have when trying to ensure excellence in your design and production processes?”
- We would also like to validate ideas we have for potential product enhancements.
Each session would be 1-hour per topic.
If you are interested, please reach out to Amber Wright (amwright@ptc.com). We look forward to hearing from you!

Key Considerations While Designing Plastic Parts
|
Plastic parts must be designed first time right to avoid future rework. Do you wish to know which are the vital factors that need to be considered while designing plastic parts?
|
Data shows 96% of design review effort goes to waste
|
Your most important product decisions are made everyday in design reviews.
We wanted to know: how productive is the typical design review?
So we broke it down:
- Are all the right people participating?
- What percent of design input is documented and tracked?
- If you wanted to go back and justify a past decision, how long would it Take to find the information you need?
Crunching the numbers leads to a surprising finding: 96% of design review effort goes to waste.
We broke it down step by step in an infographic, so you can see what the biggest bottlenecks are:

Stop sending half-dressed CAD Models downstream!
|
When it comes to CAD moidels, good looks aren't enough - They Need rich 3D data to get real work done!
It's like getting dressed but missing half your suit — It may look OK for a video call, but you're not ready for the real work of the day.
Same goes for half-done variants for ETO products.
You end up generating a series of "fake" replicas just to get work out the door🕓
They might look fine, at first…
But what happens when it's time to generate a BOM of detailed drawing, prep for manufacturing , run FEA or handle compliance?
Those quick fixes can turn into
❌ Customer Dissatisfaction
❌ Sales Bottlenecks
❌ Increase in ECOs
❌ Manufacturing Bottlenecks
❌ Costly Rework
❌ Errors
👉 Wouldn't it be nice to always be prepared witha a fully-featured module?
You can be with CREO AUTOMATION
**********************
It puts your rules into Creo so you can generate fully featured models and get rich 3D data for ETO products —>without draining your resources.
✅ Reliable models, every time
✅ Accurate downstream data
✅ Smooth integration between CAD & CAM
✅ Faster processes, fewer mistakes, more capability
************
Don't send half-dressed CAD models downstream.
Use Creo Automation for fully featured models— every variant, every time, automatically.

Revolutionizing Data Traceability with Elysium 3DxSUITE, Coming in EX11 (Aug-Sep 2025)
|
Revolutionizing Data Traceability with Elysium's 3D-Suite:
In today’s fast-evolving landscape of Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), having robust, automated tools to ensure data consistency and traceability is more critical than ever. That’s where Elysium’s 3D-Suite comes in. It offers a comprehensive suite of automated, model-based capabilities that seamlessly integrate trusted 3D MBD data throughout your entire organization, ensuring that the information is both human-readable and machine-readable. As the industry adapts to new standards and requirements, Elysium continues to evolve its capabilities, addressing the ever-changing needs of our customers.
Evolving with Industry Needs: MBC and QIF Support
The above figure illustrates the ongoing evolution of 3D-Suite in EX11, showcasing how we adapt to the industry's growing demand for QIF (Quality Information Framework) and Model-Based Characteristics (MBC) support. In the example, you'll see Model-Based Characteristics (MBC) highlighted in yellow, specifically
and
, which are assigned to engineering requirements to ensure traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
These Product Characteristic Tags (PC Tags) are accompanied by a UUID (Universally Unique ID) metadata structure, enabling true data traceability at the PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) annotation level. This traceability spans the entire enterprise, ensuring that characteristics (like dimensions and GD&T) are consistently tracked.
The Importance of MBC Tags: Ensuring Traceability from Start to Finish
Why is this so significant? Traditionally, assigning characteristics or “balloons” to engineering requirements has been a manual, time-consuming, and error-prone task carried out by quality or metrology teams. This process often leads to discrepancies across revisions or manufacturing facilities, making data traceability challenging. By assigning characteristics within your native CAD model from the very beginning, these attributes become persistent throughout the product lifecycle and across various manufacturing sites, ensuring seamless data traceability.
For our advanced customers who are already generating compliant, machine-readable MBD, assigning MBC tags directly within their MBD allows for continuous, accurate traceability back to the source of truth, their native MBD. This forward-thinking approach eliminates the need for manual assignment and enhances data consistency.
Transforming Data Exchange: QIF and the Bill of Characteristics (BoC)
Elysium’s 3D-Suite can translate these characteristics and their associated UUIDs into neutral formats like QIF. By doing so, it enables the generation of a Bill of Characteristics (BoC), which allows for traceability back to the native MBD, now complete with injected characteristics and UUIDs. This translation is key to ensuring that all engineering requirements and their associated characteristics are easily accessible and traceable across your organization.
Visualizing Traceability: Data Package Studio and 3D PDF
To take traceability even further, Elysium’s Data Package Studio can attach the QIF to a visual data package, making it ready to exchange with downstream domains. This package can be seamlessly shared with stakeholders, enabling them to visualize the characteristics directly within a 3D PDF. Through the interactive Bill of Characteristics (BoC) displayed on the right-hand side, users can easily navigate through the various presentation states and keep track of engineering requirements at the PMI annotation level.
A Complete Solution for Data Traceability in Your MBE
This visual data package is more than just a simple file—it’s a dynamic, interactive tool that ensures full traceability of characterized engineering requirements throughout your Model-Based Enterprise (MBE). By integrating these tools into your workflow, your organization can trace engineering requirements all the way down to the characteristic (PMI annotation) level of your MBD.
In conclusion, Elysium’s 3D-Suite is designed to evolve alongside the needs of the industry, empowering organizations to fully embrace the benefits of Model-Based Definition and Model-Based Enterprise principles. By ensuring that characteristics are consistently tracked and accessible, our solution drives greater accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration across the entire product lifecycle.
